Scribus Installation on Mac OS X

  • The best way to install Scribus on MacOSX is the same way other MacOSX-specific applications are installed - from a .dmg file. At this time we are only offering 1.3.7+ in this package format. You can get it from our Sourceforge Downloads Page (link opens in a new page). At this time the available MacOS X package there is Scribus 1.3.7.dmg, but that is likely to change with the next release, so please go to the files page and look for a file with .dmg extension.
  • Note: to install the stable version of scribus (1.3.3.x series) on MacOSX you must use one of the two approaches presented below.

Alternative methods for people willing and capable to pursue more technically-involved approaches:

  • Fink installation wiki page. This is one of the two easiest methods to install the stable version of scribus (1.3.3.x series) on MacOSX. Another take on this method is here.
  • MacPorts installation wiki page. This is the other one of the two easiest methods to install the stable version of scribus (1.3.3.x series) on MacOSX.
  • Compiling and Installing Scribus 1.3.5svn+ On Mac OS X is for more experienced users comfortable with building software from source. Note that it only relates to the current cutting edge developmental version of Scribus and so is not for everyone. Please report all bugs to us when you use this method and Scribus 1.3.6 or later.
  • There is a List of known bugs and issues with Scribus on MacOSX. These will probably be resolved before the release of 1.4.
