Magazine production

We are a small group in a non-profit organization (DanChurchSocial) who are making an internal magazine. I am the layouter and until now I have made it with LibreOffice because if there were changes in the group, anyone can download, use and continue the production of the magazine. LibreOffice is a great text editor however not the best for layout of 10-12 pages or more (and it is growing). I have researched for better solutions, software which are easier and more accurate to work with. We did look at the commercial softwares but the costs was far to high. Maybe there is a difference (of course in exchanging files with users of other software) – anyway we find it very hard to justify the high cost of the commercial softwares. Again, anyone in the group can download Scribus, use it and continue the production. First time I used Scribus it took less than 1/3 of the …

Series of books on OpenSource software

Reporter: Gerrit Bruijnes (gbratipaa.nl) | Date: 2015 | Scribus Version: v1.4.4 After producing a book on ‘how to produce and publish your own book using Scribus’ [1], I had taken up the task of writing a book on OpenOffice 4.x. Due to some complaining German speaking guys at a Linux ralley somewhere in the Netherlands, this title was quickly edited to serve LibreOffice 4.x users as well. And there’s more to come! Of course the layout will be done in Scribus version 1.4.4. Here [2] you can find the cover, originally designed in InDesign┬áčÖé by Hans Hollestelle [3] from Kampen in The Netherlands. The design was then rebuilt using Scribus. (Some people still have to be persuaded into using OpenSource…) I find Scribus 1.4.4 a fine program to use in OpenSource publishing in combination with one …

Manufacturing Artwork

Reporter: DigiDio | Date: Nov, 2014 Allround Promotion Artwork We did a project for a big printing company who created hardware for one of there printer series. The main focus was to create a full set of inspirational art concerning: Manuals, serie number stickers and single color package print. Important question before we start was if it has to be printed offset or not. I Choose to start this project again with Scribus V1.4.3 and later V1.4.4 It did work out very very well. The manual itself took the most power of my workstation. This document went up at 12800 levels. This manual was fully loaded with vectors and no raster images where brought in. At the end the customer was very happy with the end result. 1. Manual fully based on vector styles 12800 levels !! 2. Same manual detailed view inside 3. Carbon Boxprint one color offset print 4.
