Scribus is available for many operating systems and comes in basically two flavors, stable and development. For almost all production work, we recommend that you use the stable version. In our development version lots of things may be regularly changing as we fix issues and introduce new features.
It is also possible to install both versions side by side, so you can work with one version and play with the other.
The current stable version of Scribus is 1.6.3.
Currently the stable branch is the 1.6.x series.

The development branch is currently 1.7.x.
Its all new! 1.7.0 has not been released yet however we will release some early testing version soon enough. The below links are the future locations.

Scribus Source.
The source for Scribus is available from our Subversion repository at svn://scribus.net. “trunk” is the primary development branch. Note: there are other replicas of this repository (eg on github) however this is the official, supported code repository.
